The last time I went to SIA was the very last year it was in Las Vegas. I was only 19 and unable to be involved in any of the debauchery. I had driven down to be a part of the DNA Rail Jam on the old roller set up (if you are too young you should look it up). Needless to say, I was very excited to get back out and check out the scene.
I arrived in Denver on friday night. Thanks to Gabe Anderson at Jiberish we were able to lock down some tickets to the Diplo show at the Gothic Theater. Doors weren’t going to open until 11PM and everyone kept saying that Diplo wouldn’t go on until 2AM. At the ripe age of 26 I have made a habit of going to bed earlier than 2AM but tonight appeared as though it was going to be a late one.
After the openers were done, it was finally time for Diplo, and sure enough, it was 2AM on the dot. Even though we were already super tired from the long drive from Utah we decided we were going to stick it out. We made the right decision. Diplo put on one HELL of a show. They tried to kick him off at 3 or 330 but he kept going all the way until they unplugged him around 4AM. It was the first night and we were back in the hotel getting ready for bed at 430AM.
Luckily our hotel was literally across the street from the Denver Convention Center where SIA was taking place. This meant we were able to leisurely wake up, get breakfast, and make it to the show. SIA is very overwhelming. The amount of people and different booths is mind boggling. My first plan of action after getting my credentials was to make my way through the labyrinth of booths to the Saga booth.
I was very excited because I hadn’t seen a lot of the new gear. It was even better than I had hoped for. The new line is one of my favorite ones to date. A personal favorite of mine is the new Scout Jacket. It is an awesome piece that you can wear on or off the hill and still be stylin’.
After hangin at the booth for a while we wandered around the show for a while. As I said before, there are so many companies out there it would take the entire weekend to see them all and we only had a few hours. We made it to some of my favorite brands but didn’t last long. The late night before had taken its toll and it was time for a nap.
That night was another classic SIA night of partying with all the good people that are in town for the show. It was awesome to see the people I don’t get to see very often and I can’t wait to come back next year!
